CITY GREEN AMPHIBIOUS. "LilyPad"
This project by French architect Vincent Callebaut aims to be an alternative to the distressing issue of climate change currently facing the world: global warming.
This ambitious project will take place to ports where they traded crops. It will house around 50,000 people and have a view of building by 2010.
This work seems to be science fiction but is actually a quick answer to one of the most serious outcomes of global warming, the melting of the poles and consecutively increasing the water level of the seas.
Based on this assumption and given that many parts of the world as the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates these days are obliged to spend millions of euros to erect barriers of sand to protect the advancing waters, Callebaut created a Sustainable Project: Lilypad project.
Ecopolis is a that is exposed as a floating city, is an ecological metropolis of the future provides housing for victims of climate change, it has a special feature that is constantly moving from a concept of ecological resilience biotechnology which turns nomadism and the urban ecology in the sea.
In conclusion Lilypad travels in the direction of the hot and cold ocean currents.
Another feature is that the city can develop its fauna and flora around a central lagoon that originates artificial result of the rains, has three ports and three mountains which includes among other things, shops and entertainment, the houses are located in suspended gardens and around them there are streets and alleyways with organic outline.
The objective of this project is to create a way of life between man and nature and experience new ways of life.
Crops will have to ensure power supplies and the livelihood of the people the other source of income is trading in coastal cities is touring.
This amphibious city will cross seas and oceans and how could it be otherwise used is the energy of the sun and wind.
The architect has in mind that the city does not issue any residue using biomass fuels such as engines to drive the mobile island.
The Lilypad will use all the technological advances to work green, including solar, wind and tidal energy with lighting systems LEDSs waste recycling and other miracles.
This imaginary city still mimics the lily flower, would have a freshwater artificial pond in the center that is what allows the variety of plant and animal species.
Callebaut summarizes the idea as a prototype amphibious city and that is enough in itself but still have to wait a few years to see if it takes place.
